Long-Term Ownership

Preserving Industrial Heritage While Modernising Operations

By INFRANOVA Capital · October 2026

In many established industrial businesses, the most valuable asset does not appear on the balance sheet. It is the accumulated know-how of skilled people who understand the equipment, the processes and the customers.

That asset is under pressure. CITB estimates the UK needs around 206,000 additional construction workers between 2026 and 2030, and government analysis of engineering construction skills finds that around 30% of platers are aged over 60.

Modernisation should therefore protect know-how rather than replace it: documenting critical processes, investing in apprenticeships and giving experienced people better tools. Done well, new technology extends the reach of skilled teams instead of eroding what makes a business distinctive.
